Sized to the company, not to the accountant
A barber with two chairs and a contractor with four projects need the same honesty and very different screens. Remotly asks how big the company is and shows a ledger to match: a simple set of accounts and plain words at one end, full journals, cost centres and analytic detail at the other. The data underneath is identical, so growing up a tier is a change of view rather than a migration.
The ledger is where the other apps land
A point-of-sale shift closes and posts: sales to income, each payment method to its own account, the cash to the drawer. Goods received post to the stock asset. Goods sold move that value to cost of sales. A supplier bill settles what the receipt already recorded. None of this is re-keyed by anyone, which is the difference between an accounting app and an accounting system.
Money is stored as an exact decimal and rounded once, by the rules of the company’s own currency — three places in Kuwait, none in Japan. Amounts are never pushed through a floating-point number on the way, which is how half-fils differences creep into a year of transactions.
What it does not claim
Remotly does not ship tax rates, statutory leave entitlements or end-of-service formulas for any country. It records the rates and policies your company configures and reports on them faithfully. It makes no e-invoicing compliance claim anywhere. We would rather be the system that told you the truth about its own boundaries than the one that quietly guessed on your behalf.
Common questions
Do I need an accountant to set it up?
No. A starting chart of accounts is created for you, and the simple tier uses plain language rather than journal terminology. An accountant can switch to the full view whenever one is involved.
Can I invoice in a currency that is not my own?
Yes. Documents carry their own currency, and the ledger keeps the company’s base currency alongside it.
Is the accounting module free too?
